You're off and remodeling with the key preliminary step: the design consultation. You've exchanged ideas, explored opportunities, and begun to define the vision of your new space.
And now you're probably wondering: "What's next?"
Here's what to expect after your design consultation such that you will be feeling clear, confident, and ready to proceed to the next step.
______________________________
Step 1: Review and Clarify the Design Concepts
Following your consultation, your builder or designer will recap what they learned about your style, budget, and objectives. The following is included when working with Alpine Home Repairs:
3D renderings of your space (typically 3 week turnaround for initial design)
Recommendations for materials and finish items
Alternative design options for when you want to dream BIG
This step ensures that your idea is not only sleek on paper, but realistic and feasible to build within your home.
______________________________
Step 2: Detailed Estimate and Scope of Work
Next, you will be quoted an accurate estimate based on your design choices. It's not some theoretical rough estimate—it should detail:
The scope of work for your upcoming project
Materials and finishes included
Timeline expectation
This step is particularly valuable to Front Range homeowners because prices can fluctuate with weather, material availability, and whether or not your home requires the builder to deal with any unexpected structural demands (familiar to many old home owners here).
______________________________
Step 3: Revisions (If Necessary)
If anything is not quite right—design, budget, or schedule—things get amended. Maybe you swap quartz countertops for granite, or choose a less costly cabinet style.
The plan can then be narrowed down until you're satisfied with the design and expense.
______________________________
Step 4: Contract and Timeline
After finalizing your design and budget, you will get to the contract stage. The contract solidifies the scope of work, cost, and schedule with each party's understanding.
At this stage, we will also get the start date for your project scheduled. For large renovations, particularly kitchens, bathrooms, and basements, your contractor will go over any considerations that need to be made for temporary living arrangements (such as installing a temporary kitchen).
______________________________
Step 5: Permits and Preparation
Depending on your project, your contractor will be required to submit permits with your city or county municipality. This ensures that your remodel is safe, code-compliant, and will not present a problem with a future home sale.
As we go through the permit process, it is best for you to:
Clear the space that is to be remodeled
Prepare for project start date
______________________________
Step 6: Project Starts
This is where the actual building takes place. Your contractor will stick to the agreed design and will keep you informed of progress. Expect close and frequent updates so that you're always informed.

Why This Process Matters
It's tempting to want to skip to demolition, but these steps are important to make your project run smoothly. Spending time to solidify design detail, budget, and scope early saves money, avoids surprises, and assures that the final product will be what you envision.

You get a refined design, an accurate estimate, a signed contract document, and a project-start date—laying the groundwork of a remodel that's exciting instead of intimidating.
