If you've dreamed of remodeling a kitchen, bathroom, or basement, you've likely heard a term that rings a bell: "design consultation." But what is it? Another sales ploy? Or an actual step that gets your project underway?
We'll spell it out so you understand just what a design consultation is all about, what to expect from it, and how it helps your remodel.

What is a Design Consultation?
A design consultation is a thorough meeting with your contractor and/or designer to sketch out how your space is going to look, feel, and work.
Think of it as the bridge between your ideas (“I want a more open kitchen with better storage”) and a detailed plan that makes those ideas buildable.
During this meeting, you will privately consult with a specialist who will:
Learn about your goals, style, and budget
Grab detailed measurements of the room to understand its shape and boundaries
Provide design solutions and recommendations
Review material, finish, and plan options
Discuss what is doable within your budget

What to Expect During a Design Consultation?
While all contractors will work somewhat uniquely, this is what you can typically expect to happen during a design consultation:
Project Review – You will review your goals and priorities. Do you need additional storage? Natural light? Improved flow? More space to entertain/host?
Walkthrough of the Property – We will gather detailed measurements, listen to your ideas (and review inspiration pictures - if available), make suggestions, and look for any obvious issues (e.g., plumbing, electrical, structural, etc).
Design Ideas – We will share suggestions of layout, material, and finish that will work within your taste and budget.
Budget Alignment – This is how you determine what is possible within your budget and when changes could happen.
Next Steps – Your contractor will outline how to turn the design into a buildable project.
We will then work with our Interior Designer to craft the perfect 3D Rendering for your project (typically 2-3 week turnaround).

Why is a Design Consultation necessary?
Missing a design consultation is comparable to designing a house without a blueprint. This step is crucial to:
Avoid expensive mistakes later
Make educated decisions about material and layout options
Dial in an expected timeline and cost estimate
Make sure the final product is as envisioned
This step is particularly necessary when renovating older homes in the Front Range. Quirks in a majority of those homes—such as sloping floors, outdated wiring, or narrow hallways—require innovative design solutions.
